Pattern Maker

About Pattern Maker

Pattern Maker creates seamless repeating patterns from over 240 base styles, organized in fourteen categories: stripes and lines, checks and squares, bricks and tiles, dots and circles, geometric, waves and arcs, textiles and weaves, textures, nature, animals, food and drink, symbols and objects, space, and retro and pixel art. Classics like herringbone, houndstooth, argyle, polka dots, honeycomb, Japanese seigaiha and sashiko stitching sit next to playful ones like confetti, pixel invaders, paper planes, tropical fruit and Memphis squiggles.

Every pattern comes with its own set of controls: a checkerboard needs just a size and two colors, while a brick wall lets you tune brick width, brick height, mortar thickness and rotation. Simple patterns stay simple, detailed patterns stay adjustable. The whole workspace is a live preview that repeats the pattern edge to edge, and the randomize and variation buttons explore new looks with one click - without ever touching the colors you picked. For radial designs instead of repeating ones, try our Mandala Maker - or browse the other Create tools.

How it works

  1. Pick a base pattern

Start the app and step through the patterns with the arrows - or open the browser to see every pattern at once, with live previews and search.

  2. Make it yours

Adjust the pattern's own settings: colors, sizes, spacing, line widths, rotation and zoom. Randomize and Variation explore new looks without touching your colors.

  3. Export and use anywhere

SVG, PNG, JPG or WebP at any size with social presets, or a ready-to-paste CSS class - as the repeated image or the single tile. Everything copies straight to the clipboard too.

What can I use the patterns for?

Backgrounds for websites, slides and video calls, wrapping paper and craft projects, game textures, fabric and print mockups, or quick placeholder art. The SVG export keeps the pattern as a real vector tile, so design tools can re-tile it at any size without quality loss. Everything you generate is yours to use freely, for personal and commercial projects alike - no attribution required.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pattern Maker free?

Yes, completely free, with no account, watermark or usage limits. The patterns you make are yours to use in your own work, commercial projects included - see our License.

What patterns can I make?

241 base patterns across fourteen categories - stripes, checks, bricks and tiles, dots and circles, geometric tilings, waves, textiles, textures, nature, animals, food, symbols, space and pixel art. Each has its own adjustable settings and colors, so the variations are effectively endless.

Are the patterns really seamless?

Yes. Every pattern is built from a mathematically repeating tile, so it tiles perfectly in all directions at any size - including after rotation.

Which format should I save in?

SVG keeps the pattern as vector art: the repeated export embeds the tile as a live SVG pattern element, so design tools like Figma, Illustrator or Inkscape re-tile it losslessly at any size. PNG gives you a lossless image at whatever resolution you choose, JPG the smallest files, and WebP a modern balance of both. CSS gives you a background-image rule with the tile embedded as a data URI - paste it into a stylesheet and the browser repeats it automatically. With a transparent background, SVG, PNG, WebP and CSS keep real transparency (great for overlays), while JPG flattens it to white. Every format can also export just the single base tile, and everything can be copied straight to the clipboard.

Is anything uploaded to a server?

No. The pattern is generated and exported entirely in your browser; nothing is stored when you close the page.

Which browsers are supported?

All modern browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on desktop and mobile.
